Bless those gentle souls who find ways to meaningfully connect in a world that can be so overwhelming!
This painting went through many stages but always the character was the same - a highly sensitive soul, making her way out in the world in a way that works for her.
The plant on the table is inspired by the Mimosa Pudica plant, nicknamed the “sensitive” or “introvert” plant. When browsing herbivores venture too close, these resourceful plants shield themselves by curling up their leaves and drooping. When the threat moves on, the plants recover and return to their normal appearance.
Growing up as a highly sensitive child (and adult), I’ve felt the push and pull of loving humanity but feeling easily overwhelmed by actual humans. The positive connections we gain when sharing a meal with someone can be offset by the overwhelm of “going out.” I admire this dear soul who has ingeniously found a way to venture out and connect in a way that doesn’t leave her wilting.
